In 2016, KISE embarked on upgrading its assessment and resource centre. With support from the Kenya government, an ultramodern assessment centre: Assessment and Research Centre (ARC) was constructed. This a state of the art facility which is and the only one of its kind in the East and Central Africa Region, began its operation in 2019. The specific objectives of the centre are to:
- Undertake functional assessment of children with special needs and disabilities for proper educational placement
- To promote early intervention for children with disabilities
- Development of appropriate technology for learners with special needs
- Undertake research in special needs and disabilities
- Ensure the dissemination of research findings to planners, consumers and stakeholders among others
- Establish and strengthen databank on special needs and disabilities
