The Diploma Courses in Special Needs Education are well thought out teacher training programmes that appreciate the need that learners with special needs and disabilities will always require specialized personnel so as to benefit from the education provision and fulfilling Sustainable development Goal of Leaving no one behind.
KISE offers courses that cater for all types of disabilities. These courses are designed to equip teachers with knowledge attitude, skills and techniques to enable them to teach children with special needs and disabilities enrolled in all special schools and regular schools in Kenya, the African region, and the globe as a whole. Additionally, the program aims to close the competency gap by emphasizing a practical approach to improve outcomes.
We offer two modes of delivery: Full time Programme and ODEL programme

Requirements:
- Holders of P1 Primary Teacher Certificate by training or its equivalent with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience or
- Holders of Certificate Course in Early Childhood Education Development (ECDE) from a government Institutions with at least D+ in KCSE or Division II in KCE or its equivalent and at least 2 years teaching Experience or
- Holders of P1 teacher certificate through promotion after passing PTC exam offered by the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Standards, Ministry of Education, Kenya or
- Holders of P2 Teacher certificate and certificate in SNE from KISE or any other recognized institution with at least a D plain in KCSE or Division IV in KCE or its equivalent and at least 5 years teaching experience.

Course Duration
All Diploma courses are a two-year program introducing trainees to multidisciplinary disciplines( Term one and two) in the first year, followed by specialization (term three , four, five and six. ) in the second year.
Trainees will undertake both internal and external assessments.
Internal assessment include supervised Continuous Assessment Tests, Term Papers, special study papers, projects, professional field visits, attachment and Teaching Practice.
The Kenya National Examination Council is in charge of administering external exams. In the first year, the first multidisciplinary module is evaluated in April, and in the second year, the specialized module is checked in April. During the sixth term each student undertakes Teaching Practice in a school for learners with the specific disability as the area of specialization.
