The 5th World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Conference 2025 is officially underway at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), bringing together delegates from over 50 countries to exchange ideas, address key issues, and shape the future of Deaf empowerment.

Welcoming participants, KISE Director Dr. Norman Kiogora reaffirmed the Institute’s unwavering commitment to inclusive education and the promotion of Sign Language rights globally — setting a powerful tone for the days ahead. “Hosting the World Federation of the Deaf is a privilege that strengthens our mission to break barriers, promote sign language, and build a world where no one is left behind,” he emphasized.

Dr. Joseph Murray, President of the World Federation of the Deaf, officially opened the event, inspiring delegates to unite under this year’s theme: Advancing Sign Language Rights — a global call to strengthen language, advocacy, and equality for the Deaf community.

By hosting this historic gathering, KISE continues to bring the world together in advancing Special Needs Education, championing inclusion, and fostering a society where every voice, spoken or signed is heard
